Rear Adm. Susan BryerJoyner is a native of Savannah, Georgia. She received her commission in 1991 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering. She also holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Master of Science in Government Information Leadership from the Information Resources Management College at National Defense University. Her operational tours include deployments to the high north and Norwegian Seas for the Navy’s first Dynamic Force Employment deployment and to the Mediterranean and Arabian Seas, the Western and South Pacific Ocean, and Iraq in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and Tomodachi. Fleet assignments include information warfare commander for Carrier Strike Group 8 embarked onboard USS George Washington (CVN 73) and assistant chief of staff for N6 for U.S. 7th Fleet embarked onboard USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19). She also served as communications and information systems department head for USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) and flag communications officer for Carrier Strike Group 8 embarked on USS Harry S Truman (CVN 75). She commanded the Hopper Information Services Center, providing critical information services supporting global maritime and joint intelligence operations. Other shore assignments include senior military assistant to the Department of Defense Chief Information Officer; cybersecurity branch chief assigned to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations; flag aide to the first Commander, Naval Network Warfare Command; and flag aide to the Director, Space, Information Warfare, Command and Control Directorate in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. She also served at the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station, Mediterranean and the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, Far East. Joint tours include U.S. Pacific Command; Joint Warfare Analysis Center; Multi-National Force Iraq; and U.S. Cyber Command. BryerJoyner is currently serving as Navy Cyber Security division director, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. She is the recipient of various personal, unit, and campaign awards including the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit Medal (three awards), Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), and Navy Meritorious Service Medal (three awards). She was a recipient of the Copernicus Award in 2001 and 2006, and is a proud Plank Owner of the Information Professional Community and the Naval Network Warfare Command.
Rear Admiral Nevin Carr retired from the U.S. Navy in 2012, following a 34 year career which included command of destroyer USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) and cruiser USS Cape St George (CG 71). His shore duty assignments focused in Washington on programming and requirements for the Navy’s ship combat systems, weapons, and sea based ballistic missile defense systems. As Deputy Director of Surface Warfare for Combat Systems, Nevin was responsible for requirements governing all Surface Navy combat systems, weapons, sensors and data links, and worked closely with counterparts in Australia, Canada and the UK to achieve system commonality and requirements harmonization. As Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for International Programs, he helped build international partnerships through training, cooperative development, and Foreign Military Sales. In Nevin’s capstone assignment as Chief of Naval Research, he led 4,000 talented scientists and engineers executing the Navy’s $2B Science & Technology effort, and drove a government patent portfolio ranked #1 in the world by IEEE. As Chief of Naval Research, he worked closely with industry, academia, major research institutions, and international partners to develop emerging and disruptive technologies including Directed Energy, Autonomous Systems, Human Augmentation, Electromagnetic Spectrum Dominance, and the Electromagnetic Rail Gun. He doubled the Navy’s previous support of STEM outreach activity to $150M, and worked actively with schools and organizations to promote STEM activities and inspire young students. Following retirement from active duty, Nevin served on several boards as advisor or director, was a Senior Advisor with McKinsey & Co, and Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Stanford. He joined Leidos as Vice President and Navy Strategic Account Executive in May 2015.
Christopher Cleary was named the Department of the Navy Chief Principal Cyber Advisor (PCA) in November 2020. In this role, he is responsible for advising the Secretary of the Navy, Chief of Naval Operations, and Commandant of the Marine Corps and implementing the Department of Defense Cyber Strategy within the Department of the Navy (DON). Prior to being appointed as the PCA he was the DON Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Director of the DON CIO Cybersecurity Directorate. Before returning to his roots in the Navy, Chris worked in the commercial sector as Vice President of Business Development and Strategy for Leidos’ Cyber & SIGINT Solutions Operation, based in Columbia, Maryland. Chris’s other commercial experience includes Director of Business Development, Tenable; Client Partner, Verizon Enterprise Solutions; Director of Cyber Intelligence, L3 Communications; President, Vir-Sec Government Services; and Senior Manager of Intelligence Programs, Sparta. Chris is a retired Naval Reserve Officer who served 16 of 24 years on active duty in a variety of leadership roles supporting several commands including, US CYBER COMMAND, National Security Agency (NSA), Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), Assault Craft Unit TWO, and USS Simpson (FFG-56). Prior to receiving his commission, Chris spent four years as an F/A-18 Hornet avionics technician serving with The Desert Gladiators (VFA-106). Chris has deployed four times, twice supporting combat operations in Iraq. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Program Management Professional (PMP). He has been a lecturer at the United States Naval Academy, Federal Aviation Administration, Naval Postgraduate School, The New School of Design, Montreat College, DEFCON Security Conference, and the National Defense University. Chris graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1996 and he obtained a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2012.
Mr. Hermosilla is a member of the Senior Executive Service and is the Executive Director for U.S. Fleet Cyber Command / U.S. TENTH Fleet. Mr. Hermosilla entered federal government service in June 1992. He received a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF) and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University. He is a graduate of the DoD Senior Acquisition Course and has earned DAWIA Level III Acquisition certifications in both Information Technology and Program Management. Prior to his current assignment, Mr. Hermosilla served as the Director of Operations for the Joint Service Provider (JSP) at the Pentagon. As Director of Operations, Mr. Hermosilla provided executive oversight for several Secretary and Department of Defense (DoD) CIO headquarters initiatives including Pentagon Integrated Processing node planning and execution, Pentagon Wi-Fi, and the DEPSECDEF IT Consolidation 4th Estate Onboarding efforts. Mr. Hermosilla’s operations portfolio included 24x7 operations, residential support for VIPs and customer service for 40,000 customers including the principals and staff of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and its Primary Staff Assistant offices, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as well as other organizations and dignitaries who accessed IT resources within the Pentagon and the National Capital Region. During his tenure, Mr. Hermosilla delivered the first ever fully accredited 1700+ node Wi-Fi network in the Pentagon to support both government tenants and visitors. Additionally, he developed, maintained and facilitated the implementation of a sound and integrated IT infrastructure across the OSD, Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA), and WHS enterprise. Mr. Hermosilla’s prior leadership experience includes Civilian Deputy for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Implementation and Sustainment Center; Acting Commander/Deputy Commander of the 24x7 Global DISA Command Center; the Network Operations (NetOps) Architect and Chief, NetOps Program Office; and the Operational Support Systems (OSS) Division Chief. He was also a key member of DISA’s Global Information Grid Bandwidth Expansion Program and served as the Chief Engineer for Network Management. Mr. Hermosilla’s 25+ years of IT, Networking, and Cyber experience is comprised of engineering, program management and leadership positions directing a broad spectrum of operationally focused IT organizations that delivered capability to the Warfighter, Combatant Commands, Military Services and Defense Agencies.
CAPT Didier (DJ) LeGoff retired from the U.S. Navy in 2016, following a 29 year career; the latter 19 years of which were in C4I and Space resourcing, engineering and acquisitions. His shore duty assignments focused in San Diego and Washington on managing some of the Navy largest IT programs. DJ has over twenty years of proven performance in leading large, technically complex, organizations in conducting technology development, acquisition, and sustainment efforts in both Government and Industry. As the first Program Manager for the Navy ACAT 1 CANES program, led the Navy’s flagship Information Technology acquisition Program from initial concept, through development and deployment. He concluded his active duty military service as the Chief of Staff and Executive Assistant for Commander Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR). After retirement, he joined Booz Allen Hamilton a senior management and DoD Acquisition consultant. Didier joined Leidos as Vice President in 2017. Currently DJ serves as the Leidos NGEN-R Vice President and Program Manager.
CAPT Ben McNeal is the acting deputy PEO Digital and the program manager, Naval Enterprise Networks, overseeing acquisition and development of the Navy Marine Corps Intranet and the Base Level Information Infrastructure for Outside of the Continental United States Navy Enterprise Network. He was instrumental in developing the processes for aligning the NAVWAR afloat modernization with ship maintenance. In 2005, McNeal reported as officer in charge of NAVWAR Systems Facility with additional duties to NAVSEA as strike force interoperability officer for Commander 7th Fleet. Before assuming his current responsibilities, McNeal managed the Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services network system within the Program Executive Office for Command, Control, Communication, Computers, and Intelligence.
As the Director of Emerging Technology, Patrick is responsible for the alignment of Zscaler capabilities to the Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Communities (IC) mission sets in order to provide dynamic, mission focused innovative approaches to network/transport security. Patrick recently retired from the Army as a Signal Corps Chief Warrant Officer Four after 21+ years of service. Patrick’s experience over the last 15 years has been with the U.S. Special Operations community. Throughout his career, he has served as the Chief Technical Advisor to Senior Military Leaders as well as performed in both Network and Security Engineer positions. He specialized in developing innovative and emerging technology solutions support to both strategic and tactical missions globally. Patrick holds degrees from University of Oklahoma and University of Maryland University College, as well as industry certifications including 2 x CISCO Certified Internet Expert (CCIE) and a CISSP. He is married to a career Army Signal Officer currently serving on active duty and they have five children.
Andrew (Drew) is an experienced sales leader with a demonstrated history of success working in the technology industry supporting the US Federal government. As General Manager, Government Solutions at Zscaler, Drew focuses on ensuring agencies can achieve a true zero trust approach in providing secure access for users regardless of device, location, or network. He is a committed leader working with his team to ensure government agencies and federal systems integrators can take advantage of cloud technologies securely, to empower their teams, meet their missions, and deliver exceptional citizen services. Drew’s standout leadership skills and success in partnering with the US government in their journey to IT modernization has been most recently recognized by WashingtonExec as a Top 20 Cloud Executive to Watch, a 2021 Federal 100 Award Winner, and a 2022 MeriTalk Cyber Defenders Award Winner. Prior to Zscaler, Drew served as Vice President of Sales for US Public Sector and Director of DoD Sales at Riverbed Technology. He also worked as an Account Manager at NetApp supporting the SOCOM, CENTCOM, and the US Army SWA communities and has held roles at EDS and Unisys.
